Everyone is saddened by the passing of the legend Stan Lee and I really enjoy seeing all the tributes across social media about what he meant to us all and as individuals. Taking a few minutes for me to express mine here and hope you take a few minutes to read them. I knew this day would come sooner rather than later and I thought I would cry my eyes out and when I found out today I was extremely sad but then I remembered what joy this man has brought us all and it made me smile. Stan was best at well, being Stan Lee. Marvel comics shaped much of my childhood and without Stan we would not have a Marvel. Comics were really one of my first introductions to the nerd now pop culture. When I first discovered my uncles old comics from the seventies they were mostly DC but there was one Xmen book in the mix and man it just spoke to me more than the DC titles at the time. From then on I started reading comics at the grocery store buying some here and there until I found a local shop and then a lot of my money went towards comics each week.
We have all seen the global phenomenon which is now the Marvel Cinematic Universe or MCU and obviously without Stan we wouldn’t have ever gotten here. His cameos in these movies always brought a smile to our faces when he popped up in the newest MCU movie. I never got to meet Stan and wish I would have went to a con he was attending and met him but it just wasn’t in the cards. Luckily guys like Kevin Smith and his movies and podcasts kept Stan in our lives before the MCU broke bad. I have listened to Stan being on Kevin’s podcasts or interviews and Stan was just a great story teller even outside of comics. I think we all appreciate Stan’s contributions to comics and I hope all will investigate some of Stan’s life out of Marvel. He always seemed like a super humble guy and I for one will miss hearing stories from him that never got told. Luckily I have several out there to listen too from the years past because let’s face it any one who reaches the age of 95 has stories.
So in closing I will miss you Stan we all will but you will never be forgotten and your legacy will live through the years. Thank you for being such a crucial part to my life and many others. What you helped create will live for generations. You and your many characters will live in our hearts and the four colors on paper for years. Please feel to comment or share your Stan Lee stories, this is how we keep the legend alive.
Excelsior!!!!
